Cognitive approach

Arising out of cognitive science, in which the thinking of the individual person operating in the world is the dominating focus of research on information seeking, retrieval, and use (Bates, 1979; Belkin, 1990; Belkin, Oddy, & Brooks, 1982; Ellis, 1989; Ingwersen, 1992, 1999). See Newell & Simon (1972) and Anderson (1995) for expositions of this approach.
